3 Common Pests Affecting Spas

Posted on: 23 June 2015

Your spa is a place where you can sit back, relax and unwind from a stressful day at work. It allows you to sit outside underneath of the stars and breathe in the fresh air. Spas are a wonderful retreat for people of all ages. However, they require a certain degree of maintenance to make sure they are in proper working order at all times. Unfortunately, many spa owners end up dealing with one pest or another in their spa due to negligence on their part. Here are some of the common pests that affect spas and what can be done to prevent them from invading your space.

Mice

No one wants to share their spa with a mouse. You might not realize it, but the cabinet makes a great place for mice to come in and stay warm. They use the insulation to make a bed and nest. Before you know it, they have started their own little family and invaded your space. They chew through the wiring, tubing and cabinet, destroying it in their wake. To prevent mice from invading your space, you need to inspect the cabinet and make sure it is properly sealed. Perform this inspection every couple of months to make sure no breach has occurred.

Bees

As the weather turns warmer, bees will search for somewhere to drink. They need water to survive just like everyone else. Once they have found their source of water, they are going to keep coming back time and time again. Bees will search for any cracks they can find to gain access to your spa. Once they end up getting underneath of the cover, they end up dying and causing the water to be contaminated. Make sure to look around for potential holes to prevent the bees from making your spa their new home.

Ants

Ants will end up destroying your spa cabinet quicker than what you can imagine. Ants use the insulation as their nesting ground, the moisture gives them life and they eat the wood of the cabinet to create tunnels. By maintaining the wood properly, the ants will tend to search somewhere else for their home. Rotting wood tends to be the best place for ants to roam.

By taking the time to keep your spa in top shape, you can make sure your spa isn't invaded by pests this summer. Performing regular checks can go a long way in keeping your spa in top shape for years to come. Contact a spa company like Aqua Friends Pool & Spa for more information.

Making Pool Decisions Easier for You

My son started begging me for a pool when he turned five. I soon broke down and started exploring the best option for an inground pool that would fit in my yard. I contacted a contractor and the professional provided me with fiberglass, cement, and vinyl options to choose from. My size and shape options were endless and I also needed to figure out if I wanted salt sanitation or a chlorine system with a filter. I also found out that I needed to meet city guidelines in regard to placement, and my home insurance would probably go up due to the installation. A fence was required as well. My head was spinning after talking to the professional. I had a lot of decisions to make and you do too if you want a pool. Start with the information on my blog to make sure these decisions are easy ones.
