Swimming Pool Leaking From The Bottom? What You Can Do

Posted on: 15 December 2020

If you have a leak coming from your swimming pool and it's coming from the bottom of the pool, it could be that you have a hole in your pool liner, or the track around your pool could be damaged, or the walls of your pool may be rusted and damaged. With any of these things, you're going to have to make the repair before you end up with a disaster on your hands. Read on for information to help you repair your pool.

Drain Your Pool To Replace The Liner

First and foremost, you're going to need to drain your swimming pool. If there's a hole in the liner, this may be an easy repair, but you have to be quick about it, as the sun can very quickly dry out your pool liner and you'll be left needing to replace the liner. If it's a major tear though, you'll need a new liner anyway. Either way, drain the water in your pool and check for a hole once it's drained. If you can repair the hole or tear, as it's less than a couple of inches, you can use a repair kit to repair the hole. Once the patch is in place, begin adding water to the pool.

Drain Your Pool To Repair The Pool Wall

If your pool was leaking from the liner, but you also have rust on the pool walls, the hole may have been caused by the rust on the walls scratching up the liner. In this case, you're going to have to drain the pool, repair the pool wall and then replace the liner. If there isn't a lot of rust, you may be able to duct tape over the area in the wall that was rusted (as long as it isn't rusted through), then install the new liner. If the wall is rusted through, the wall will no longer support the water in the pool and it could be dangerous to those using the pool. Have a new pool installed instead.

Drain Your Pool And Replace The Track

If the pool wall moved out of place in the track, it could have caused an issue leading to a hole in your liner. If you see that the wall is out of the track, remove the damaged liner, and place the wall back into the track. If the track is too rusted or damaged, have the track piece replaced and put the wall back into the new piece of track. Once your pool walls are back in their tracks, you can install the new liner and add water to your pool.

If your pool is leaking from the bottom, it could be a number of issues. Any one of them can be a lot of work to repair on your own. Hire a swimming pool repair company to help you with any of these issues.

Making Pool Decisions Easier for You

My son started begging me for a pool when he turned five. I soon broke down and started exploring the best option for an inground pool that would fit in my yard. I contacted a contractor and the professional provided me with fiberglass, cement, and vinyl options to choose from. My size and shape options were endless and I also needed to figure out if I wanted salt sanitation or a chlorine system with a filter. I also found out that I needed to meet city guidelines in regard to placement, and my home insurance would probably go up due to the installation. A fence was required as well. My head was spinning after talking to the professional. I had a lot of decisions to make and you do too if you want a pool. Start with the information on my blog to make sure these decisions are easy ones.
